Before the home opener, it was clear the Cleveland Guardians couldn’t wait to get back to Progressive Field and face a team like the Chicago White Sox.
No disrespect to the White Sox, but they arguably remain the worst team in baseball, and the Guardians needed an injection of confidence.
After a couple of sloppy one-run wins, Cleveland finally broke loose and put up six runs, two homers and 10 hits to sweep Chicago and increase team morale.
“Game over. Guardians complete the sweep of the White Sox with a 6-1 win in the series finale. Cleveland is back to .500 with a record of 6-6 on the season and sit just 1 game out of first place,” Nick Camino of WKYC-TV 3 wrote on X.

Perhaps the most important takeaway of the afternoon win is that the Guardians managed to crawl back to a .500 record.
They opened their homestand with a worrisome record, with fans questioning everything from roster construction to strategy and execution.
Now, they are 6-6 and looking better.
Not perfect, by any means, but better.
The Guardians aren’t as bad as they looked after the final road loss, but they are probably not as good as they look after sweeping the last-place White Sox.
They are a team still looking for its identity.
It’s easier to do that with a 6-6 record than, say, a 3-9 mark.
Now, the Guardians will host the Kansas City Royals in an important three-game set.
If they play well, there is a chance Cleveland wraps up the week leading the AL Central.
