The Cleveland Guardians are the hottest team in baseball right now.
They looked done just a couple of months ago, so watching them be at the top of the division isn’t only impressive, it’s unprecedented.
As pointed out by MLB insider Jon Morosi on X, no team had ever overcome a deficit as big as this one:
“The Cleveland Guardians now lead the AL Central. If the Guardians win the Central, their 15-1/2 game deficit will be the largest overcome to win a division in MLB history, per @MLBNetwork research,” Morosi posted.

Granted, this also speaks volumes about the Detroit Tigers’ massive debacle, and they have to take a deep look in the mirror after wasting such a huge lead.
Then again, the Guardians also deserve all the credit in the world for the way they’ve worked their way back from such a huge deficit.
Stephen Vogt has proven to be great not only at managing games but also at managing talent.
He’s made some minor tweaks, but the way he’s kept the team grounded, motivated, and fighting is simply remarkable.
We’re talking about a team that lost one of its best players to a sports gambling investigation.
Instead of losing their confidence or waving the white flag, they rallied together to prove that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and that they could win regardless of who was out there.
The job is still not done.
They still have to continue pushing and take care of business in the final stretch of the season.
But after all they’ve done, they have to believe they can beat any team that comes across them, and that type of confidence can take a team a long way.
