Baseball witnessed a battle of the two best teams in the American League on Saturday.
The New York Yankees entered the game with a 10-3 record, and the Cleveland Guardians weren’t far behind at 9-3.
The Guards competed, but they ended up losing the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against New York with a 3-2 score.

The visitors opened the scoring in the second inning, after Trent Grisham grounded into a double play with the bases loaded.
Guardians starter Carlos Carrasco walked a tightrope all game, allowing ten baserunners (five hits and five walks) in 4.1 innings of work.
Still, he managed to keep the Guards in the game and conceded just one run.
Once he left the game, however, Oswaldo Cabrera extended the Yankees lead with a mammoth two-run home run against Nick Sandlin in the sixth frame.
The Guardians kept grinding and scored two runs in the bottom of that frame after a throwing error by Gleyber Torres prevented an inning-ending double play.
However, their comeback attempt fell short, as they couldn’t inflict too much damage against the Yankees’ bullpen.
Prior to that, Clarke Schmidt pitched five innings of two runs, but only one of them was earned.
Clay Holmes closed out the game for his sixth save of the season, but he was helped by this missed call by the home plate umpire in the ninth inning against Guardians outfielder Estevan Florial:

The teams will play the second leg of the doubleheader later on Saturday, with Cody Poteet pitching for the Yanks and Triston McKenzie taking the hill for the Guardians.
