The Cleveland Guardians closed out their road trip in impressive fashion, taking down the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1 to secure a series victory against one of baseball’s top teams.
It was a statement win for Cleveland, not just because of the opponent, but because of how complete the performance was. Strong pitching and timely hitting all came together as the Guardians finished their trip with a 4-3 record after facing both Seattle and Los Angeles.
Gavin Williams led the way with one of the best outings of his young career. The right-hander was dominant, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out 10. It marked the fifth time in his career that he has reached double-digit strikeouts in a game, and it came against one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball.

“These are big wins,” Williams said. “We know we can do anything we want. We proved it with these last two series and we’re going to keep the momentum going.”
After issuing a leadoff walk to Shohei Ohtani, Williams quickly settled in and took control. He retired 12 of the next 13 hitters at one point and consistently kept Dodgers hitters off balance.
Manager Stephen Vogt had high praise for Williams after the game.
“That’s about as good as it gets from Gavin right there,” Vogt said. “He had every pitch working. He and Bo were on the same page. They had great sequences all night.”
While Williams handled things on the mound, the offense did just enough to support him.
Cleveland jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the third inning when Gabriel Arias delivered with a towering drive to center field that cleared the fence for his first home run of the season.

“Without our big home run hitter in the lineup, it was good to be the guy to hit a home run,” Arias said. “I knew I hit the ball good.”
The Guardians added some breathing room late in the game when Jose Ramirez crushed a two-run home run in the eighth inning.

“Jose just keeps coming through when we need him the most,” Vogt said.
The bullpen took care of the rest. Shawn Armstrong and Erik Sabrowski led the way before Cade Smith closed things out.
“We played really good baseball throughout,” Vogt said. “You can nitpick anything you want. We faced two of the best teams in the league and we’re going home over .500.”
The Guardians now return home with momentum on their side. After a challenging road trip to open the season, they have shown they can compete with elite teams when all phases of their game are clicking.
If performances like this continue, Cleveland could quickly turn early-season questions into confidence moving forward.
