The Cleveland Guardians are playing two games on Saturday against the Boston Red Sox.
With that in mind and the fact that there are no off days until May 8th, the Guardians will need arms to cover as many innings as possible.
As a result, they called up left-hander Kolby Allard, who had an acceptable spring training with Cleveland but didn’t break camp with the team.
“The Guardians selected lefty Kolby Allard from Triple-A Columbus. Doug Nikhazy (set to start Game 2 tonight) is the 27th man of today’s doubleheader. Erik Sabrowski transferred to 60-day IL to make 40-man space,” team insider Tim Stebbins posted on X.

Allard is a former top prospect who didn’t quite have the career that many evaluators expected from him.
Still, he can be a useful innings eater for Cleveland, an organization known for getting the best out of its pitchers, if given the chance.
The southpaw, a former first-round pick in 2015, has a career 5.99 ERA in 272 innings before landing in Cleveland on a minor league deal this past winter.
In four starts with the Columbus Clippers of Triple-A this year, Allard has posted a 4.86 ERA in 16.2 innings of work.
Initially, he is expected to be a bullpen piece for manager Stephen Vogt and the Guardians.
Things can change, though.
His stay on the roster beyond this weekend is far from a guarantee, but it will largely depend on how he performs.
He has a chance to make a lasting impression and earn some major league time in the next few days.
