The Cleveland Guardians just went 6-4 on a brutal 10-game stretch to open the 2026 campaign. Schedule makers decided to test their quality and depth right out of the gate, and the team responded favorably.
First, they split a four-game set in Seattle against the Mariners to start their season. Then, they took two out of three in Los Angeles over the Dodgers. And now, this past weekend, they won two of the three vs. the Chicago Cubs at Progressive Field.
Per @JacobsFieldRBW on X, these teams are among the league leaders in World Series odds. The Guardians didn’t just beat some slouches.

Basically, the Guardians tied a road series vs. the team with the best World Series odds in the American League, and then won a three-game set in LA against the squad with the best odds to win the Fall Classic in the National League and the entire circuit.
After that, they hosted a very solid Cubs team and took two out of three, too. It was an excellent first couple of weeks for Cleveland, which, despite its -4 run differential, leads the AL Central with its 6-4 record.
The Guardians are getting solid contributions from players they didn’t think would have such a major role, like Parker Messick and CJ Kayfus, just to name a couple. Now, they move on to face a division foe in the first of three straight battles from Monday to Wednesday: the Kansas City Royals.
The Royals are one of three squads tied for second place in the AL Central with a 4-5 record: the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox are the others, with the Minnesota Twins checking in at the last spot with a 3-6 balance.
It’s still very early, but the Guardians are showing that they have what it takes to compete against the best of the best. Their inconsistency can be baffling at times, but they have a high ceiling.
