Early-season baseball games are always at the mercy of the weather. The Cleveland Guardians are finding this out already in the opening weeks of the 2026 MLB season.
After their home game against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday was rained out, and after playing a doubleheader in less-than-ideal weather on Sunday, the Guardians are adjusting their schedule again. This time, they are doing so in advance, based on the chilly forecast.
The Guardians have announced that the time of their game Tuesday against the AL Central rival Kansas City Royals has been changed to 1:10 p.m. from its original 6:10 p.m. start.
“The Guardians today announced that the Tuesday, April 7 game against the Kansas City Royals will now start at 1:10 p.m. due to the expected frigid temperatures at night. … Fans who are unable to attend the new first pitch time will be able to exchange their tickets,” the Guardians posted on X.

Cleveland and Kansas City are set to play Monday at 6:10 p.m. as scheduled to open a three-game series at Progressive Field. According to Weather.com, the forecast for that game is 48 degrees at first pitch.
However, on Tuesday, temperatures are expected to drop to 33 degrees by 1 p.m. At 6 p.m., it is expected to be around 32 degrees and will fall further into the evening.
After returning home from a season-opening seven-game road trip against the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers, the Guardians defeated the Cubs on Friday in their home opener before the rainout on Saturday. In chilly and windy conditions on Sunday, the teams combined for just three hits in the doubleheader opener, with the Cubs earning a 1-0 victory.
Then, in the second game, the Guardians rallied with three runs in the eighth inning for a 6-5 win. It gave them a 6-4 record that has them in first place in the AL Central.
The Guardians and Royals are scheduled to wrap up their series with another 1:10 p.m. start on Wednesday, when the forecast is calling for high temperatures near 60 degrees. Cleveland then goes back on the road for a pair of three-game series against the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals.
Hopefully, by the time the Guardians return home to play the Baltimore Orioles on April 16, the weather will be a bit more comfortable for fans and players alike.
