George Valera made a nice little impression late in the 2025 MLB season after getting a September call-up to the Cleveland Guardians. He posted a .748 OPS in 41 at-bats before clubbing a homer and a double in the Wild Card series, which should be enough to give him a leg up on securing a sizable role in 2026.
The front office navigated this offseason under the impression that Valera, Chase DeLauter, and CJ Kayfus could take big steps forward and lock down the other two outfield spots alongside Steven Kwan. Now that the team is nine games into Spring Training, Valera has begun to separate himself a bit and could be the favorite to start in right field.
Guardians Prospective shared a clip from Saturday’s game against the Chicago White Sox that showed Valera smoking an RBI double to right center. The shot registered 110.1 miles per hour off the bat and helped raise his OPS to 1.212 so far.
“Cleveland #Guardians OF George Valera delivers an RBI double to right center 110.1 mph off the bat in the 3rd inning vs the White Sox. Valera is currently (5-12) on the spring hitting .427 with a double, HR and a 1.212 OPS,” said Guardians Prospective.

Other outfielders such as Nolan Jones and Angel Martinez will be in the mix for playing time as well, but Valera offers more upside than either of them is capable of. He was one of Cleveland’s best offensive prospects and can serve as a huge upgrade from the putrid production this outfield produced last year.
Cleveland hit .225 as a team last year and Jones and Martinez absolutely contributed to that ghastly number. Valera should have no problem hitting above that with some legitimate power, and if he can do that he is going to make it impossible for Stephen Vogt to keep him out of the lineup.
The kid is ripping the ball in Spring Training and he just needs to continue taking it one day at a time. We’ll see if he has any more 110+ exit velocities in him during Sunday’s split-squad games.
