It’s still too early to tell, but the initial returns suggest that the Cleveland Guardians have developed another star.
Parker Messick hasn’t looked like a rookie in his first two MLB games.
The left-hander looks poised and in control on the mound, which is why former Cleveland pitcher Jensen Lewis raved about Messick on the “BIGPLAY Cleveland Show.”
“This is what this organization has been predicated on for probably the last decade. They can draft and develop, and when they acquire pitching, they can also do their magic and get guys to really perform at a high level. Love it. [Parker Messick] was one guy that you looked at, and we’ve always appreciated guys from the left-handed side that could add a little bit of sneaky power with the ability to command the strike zone. What an encouraging start to his young major league career. Let’s see what he can do,” Lewis said.
Happy Parker Messick day! #GuardsBall

Messick looked solid in his first start of the season, but he took things up a notch in his second.
He helped the Guardians secure a much-needed 3-0 home win against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The 24-year-old pitched seven scoreless innings, holding the Rays to just four hits (three singles) while posting six strikeouts.
He earned his first MLB win to help the Guardians end a six-game losing streak.
He painted the corners of the strike zone and stayed ahead in the count, not issuing a single walk.
Then, Hunter Gaddis and Cade Smith combined to finish the job.
In Messick’s MLB debut, he left with a 2-1 lead after pitching 6.2 innings before the Guardians couldn’t hold it and lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 10 innings.
So, in just two outings, his impressive statistics show a 1-0 record and an 0.66 ERA with 12 strikeouts and one walk.
