The Cleveland Guardians have lost one of their former players. All-Star pitcher Steve Hargan passed away at the age of 83.
He died last week, but it wasn’t until recently that his passing was announced. So far, his family hasn’t disclosed the cause.
Hargan had a long and successful career with the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays and Atlanta Braves. He played from 1965 to 1977 and had a 3.92 ERA in 354 games (215 starts) over 1,632.0 innings.

He began his MLB career with Cleveland, serving as both a starter and a reliever. He later became a fixture in the rotation.
In 1967, he logged a 2.62 ERA in 223 innings and led the American League with six shutouts. He got his only All-Star nod in that campaign, but was unable to pitch in the game due to an injury.
He also hit his only career home run that season. He unfortunately developed bone chips in his right elbow, and he was never the same after undergoing ulnar nerve surgery in 1968.
He still managed to play for nearly a decade after that. He was traded to Texas, where he logged a 3.93 ERA in 512.2 innings over four seasons. He later joined Toronto in the expansion draft before finding his way back to Texas and then finishing his career with Atlanta.
