David Fry hit one of the biggest home runs in Cleveland Guardians history when he hit a go-ahead 2-run homer in the 7th inning of Game 4 of the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers, but that was nothing compared to the one he hit on Thursday.
Fry helped the Guardians fend off a 3-0 ALCS deficit with a walk-off 2-run homer off Clay Holmes to move the series against the New York Yankees to 2-1, making history in the process.
OptaStats shared on X that Fry is now the only player to hit a 2-out, 2-strike, go-ahead home run in the 7th inning or later twice in their postseason career and that remarkably, both of those instances have come in the last eight days in games he didn’t start.

That one player is the @CleGuardians' David Fry.

It has been an exceptional year for Fry, who made his first All-Star team in his second year in the league and has now quickly become a postseason hero.
It was a history-making game for the Guardians, as Kyle Manzardo became the first rookie in franchise history to hit a playoff home run with a runner on base and Jhonkensy Noel then became the second to do the same when he hit his massive game-tying 2-run shot with two outs in the ninth inning.
Noel’s homer was also the second game-tying homer in the 9th inning or later in team postseason history.
Even though Fry struggled against right-handed pitching this season, his bat is invaluable to this struggling offense, and manager Stephen Vogt is going to have to figure out how to continue getting him at-bats the rest of this series.
