Daniel Schneemann’s bat continues to find big moments, even on a night Cleveland could not find much else.
The utility man delivered his second grand slam of the season in Wednesday’s loss to the Brewers, a two out, two strike blast off Brandon Sproat that briefly pulled the Guardians back into the game. The swing carried extra significance beyond the moment. It tied Schneemann with five other players, including Yordan Alvarez and Corbin Carroll, for the most grand slams in the majors this season.

The slam itself came at a critical point. Travis Bazzana opened the fourth inning with a leadoff walk, Kyle Manzardo followed with a single, and Brayan Rocchio drew another walk to load the bases. Sproat got ahead of Schneemann before missing with a two and two pitch that found the right field seats, cutting Milwaukee’s lead from 5-0 to 5-4 and giving Cleveland a real chance to complete the comeback.
Schneemann’s first slam of the year came against Baltimore back in April, a moment that broke a scoreless tie and was part of an early season stretch where he carried much of Cleveland’s offense. His ability to deliver in these spots has become a recurring theme, one that goes beyond the defensive flexibility that originally earned him a roster spot.
Cleveland produced just three hits as a team, and Milwaukee answered Schneemann’s slam with a two run homer from Jackson Chourio that pushed the lead right back to three runs. The Guardians ultimately fell 9-4, continuing a difficult stretch that has coincided with the absences of Jose Ramirez, Angel Martinez and Chase DeLauter.
Even in defeat, Schneemann gave Cleveland fans something to point to. A player once considered organizational depth has turned himself into one of the most clutch bats on the roster, and his name now sits alongside some of baseball’s most dangerous hitters in a category. Cleveland will need more of that production as the lineup continues to navigate its injury situation heading into Thursday’s series finale.
