Cleveland Guardians utility man Daniel Schneemann was reinstated from the paternity list on Thursday, and the timing couldn’t be better ahead of a three-game set with the Seattle Mariners that will likely determine whether or not the Guardians are serious about potentially making a late playoff run this season.
The Guardians need all the help they can get on offense to make up this five-game deficit in the AL Wild Card race, and with Schneemann bringing some new dad energy to the team, it was a good week for him to feel a bit nostalgic and reflect on his time in Cleveland.
Stephen Hunt of Deseret News recently wrote an article about how Schneemann is proud to represent BYU with the Guardians, and he discussed the pros and cons of his new thriving career in Cleveland.
“Yeah, definitely in terms of travel and the level of competitiveness has been the biggest difference and I’ve loved every second of it,” Schneemann said. “Obviously, the downside is not being able to spend as much time with my family, but other than that everything that I could have dreamed of this past year has happened.”
Schneemann has posted a .686 OPS this season in 307 at-bats, and he is gradually solidifying himself as a legitimate MLB player who should have plenty of years ahead of him.
At 28 years old, Schneemann was a late bloomer after spending plenty of time in the minors, but he has been an impact player since the Guardians finally called him up last season.
He has shown the ability to play all over the field and bat anywhere in the lineup over his two years in the majors, and with the Guardians scuffling so badly on offense, having him back in the clubhouse couldn’t come at a better time.
Hopefully, being a new dad can inspire him to get hot at the plate and he can help lead the Guardians back to the playoffs.
