The Cleveland Guardians have a way of playing, an identity that defines them for better and worse.
The league associates the Guards with gritty play, solid pitching, good fundamentals, and just enough offense to solve games and compete.
More often than not, they play exactly like that.
That identity makes them unique, and fans and players embrace it with pride and dignity.
One of them was utilityman and All-Star candidate Daniel Schneemann, who hit a key three-run homer in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s game.
That blast gave Cleveland a 4-0 lead, and they ended up beating the San Francisco Giants 4-2.
“That was a good old-fashioned Guardians dub… Put a couple of runs on the board and our pitchers are going to do their job,” he said after the game, representing that Guardians’ DNA.

More often than not, the best Guardians teams of the last two or three years have showcased a rock-solid pitching staff, just enough offense to get by, and excellent defense.
The philosophy has yielded two postseason berths in the last three years, including an American League Championship Series appearance last year.
Schneemann has done his best to provide some of that offense this year, with a .248/.330/.446 line, eight home runs, and five stolen bases.
He has also pitched in seven doubles and 21 RBI in 56 games.
Some say that, given his above-average offensive play (120 wRC+) and positive contributions in the three facets of the game, Schneemann deserves to make the All-Star team in the American League.
He has become one of the steadiest players on the Guardians and was crucial in their latest win, one that allowed them to reach a 37-35 record.
