It took a long time and some struggles, but Daniel Espino, one of the Cleveland Guardians’ most promising prospects, is back on the mound.
He’s been solid for Surprise in the Arizona Fall League.
The 24-year-old right-hander opened up on his journey in a recent interview with Baseball America.
“It was kind of like a recurring thing. Getting back-to-back surgeries, it’s easy to just get away. Just keeping everything in perspective, just knowing that better days are coming, and also surrounded by really good people from the organization, my friends, my family. It just helped rehab a little bit better,” Espino said.

A first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, Espino often went viral for his dominant performances.
He was regarded as one of the most electric and promising hurlers in the minor leagues, and he looked poised to become a star once he finally made his way to the majors.
Unfortunately, multiple knee and shoulder injuries required him to have surgery several times.
He missed all of the 2023 and 2024 seasons and most of the 2025 campaign as well.
That’s why it’s so encouraging to see him pitching again.
Of course, he’s not facing high-end competition, but he’s staying ahead in the count, keeping hitters guessing, and showcasing his repertoire.
The Guardians’ player development staff is among the best in the game, and their pitching coaches are elite.
That means there’s still plenty of hope for Espino.
If he can stay healthy, there’s no reason to believe he won’t fulfill his destiny and dominate in the majors at some point.
