The Cleveland Guardians bullpen is about to get another fresh arm, and now we know what number he will be wearing.
The Guardians recalled right-hander Codi Heuer from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, with Franco Aleman being optioned back down to make room on the roster. MLB Jersey Numbers confirmed the news and the number Heuer will don at Progressive Field.
“RHP Codi Heuer will wear number 50. Last worn on the field by RHP Peyton Battenfield in 2023,” the account posted on X.

Heuer’s arrival comes at a well-timed moment for a Cleveland bullpen that Stephen Vogt praised extensively after Wednesday’s sweep of the Angels. The group has been outstanding over the last 13 games, but the workload has been significant and the organization is clearly thinking ahead about keeping those arms fresh as the schedule intensifies heading into the summer.
The 29-year-old right-hander from Missoula, Montana has had a fascinating and at times turbulent professional journey to get to this point. Drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the sixth round of the 2018 draft out of Wichita State, Heuer burst onto the scene with a genuinely dominant 2020 debut, posting a 1.52 ERA across 23 innings for the White Sox as a rookie. He followed that up with a strong 2021 campaign split between Chicago and the Cubs, combining for a 3.97 ERA across 67 innings with 65 strikeouts.
Then 2022 arrived and took everything away.
Heuer missed the entire season due to injury, a devastating blow for a pitcher who had shown every indication of developing into one of the better setup arms in the National League. He worked his way back in 2025 with brief stints in Detroit and Texas before Cleveland signed him to a minor league deal in December of last year and invited him to spring training.
At Triple-A Columbus in 2026, Heuer delivered the kind of performance that made the recall impossible to ignore. Across 14 innings with the Clippers, he posted a 2.57 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and a 12-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The stuff is clearly still there, and the front office saw enough to bring him to the big leagues for the first time as a Cleveland Guardian.
His career numbers reflect a pitcher with legitimate late-inning potential when healthy. Over 95.2 career innings and 89 appearances, Heuer owns a 3.67 ERA and 86 strikeouts.
Number 50 is ready to go for the Cleveland Guardians.
