Chris Antonetti made it clear that the Cleveland Guardians are not lowering their expectations heading into 2026.
During a recent appearance on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, the Guardians’ president of baseball operations delivered a straightforward message about the organization’s goals.
“Our goal is to win a World Series,” Antonetti said. “For us to win, we need to accelerate that development of young players.”

The Guardians have long relied on scouting and player development rather than blockbuster free agent spending. Antonetti emphasized that approach again, pointing to the wave of young talent either already on the roster or close to contributing at the major league level.
“We have the group of players internally and a wave of guys on the cusp of contributing at the major league level to fuel the offensive improvement we need,” Antonetti said.
That comment speaks to the organization’s belief that improvement is coming from within. With several young hitters gaining experience and prospects pushing toward the big leagues, Cleveland is betting that internal growth will drive the offense forward.
The focus on accelerating development is especially important after an inconsistent offensive season. While the pitching staff has often carried the load in recent years, the front office understands that sustained success will require more balance across the roster.
Antonetti’s remarks also reinforce that the long-term vision has not changed. The Guardians are not content with simply contending for a division title. The stated objective remains a championship.
Spring training provides an opportunity for younger players to take meaningful steps forward. If those strides materialize, Cleveland believes it can close the gap and position itself as a legitimate threat in 2026.
Antonetti’s message was simple but significant. The standard is a World Series, and the path to get there runs through the development of the next wave of Guardians talent.
