The Cleveland Guardians could not have asked for a better start to the 2026 season, and Chase DeLauter made sure of that.
In Cleveland’s 6-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Opening Day, DeLauter delivered a performance that instantly put him in the history books.
The highly touted rookie went 3-5 with two home runs and two RBI, providing a huge spark for the Guardians’ offense. It was not just an impressive debut. It was a historic one.
“Chase DeLauter is the 7th player in MLB history with two home runs in his first regular season game,” Sarah Langs posted.

DeLauter wasted no time making an impact.
He launched his first career home run in his very first Major League plate appearance, becoming just the 14th player in league history to accomplish that feat on Opening Day. That alone would have been enough to headline the night.

But he was not done.
In the ninth inning, DeLauter crushed a second home run to right-center field, putting an exclamation point on one of the most memorable debuts in recent franchise history. With that second blast, he joined a rare group of players to hit two home runs in their MLB debut, a list that includes names like Trevor Story.

For Cleveland, the timing could not have been better. The Guardians have been searching for more power in their lineup, and DeLauter provided exactly that. His ability to drive the ball to all fields was on full display, and it immediately gave the offense a different look.
The rest of the lineup contributed as well.
Jose Ramirez added an RBI, while Rhys Hoskins chipped in with three hits as Cleveland totaled 12 hits in the win. On the mound, Tanner Bibee gave the team a solid start, allowing three runs over five innings while striking out seven.
Still, the night clearly belonged to DeLauter.
His performance not only helped secure a win, but it also reinforced why there has been so much excitement surrounding his arrival. The Guardians have long relied on developing talent from within, and DeLauter looks like he could be the next player to make a significant impact.
It is only one game. But it was about as strong of a statement as a rookie can make.
And if this is any indication of what is to come, the Guardians may have found the impact bat they have been missing.
