The Cleveland Guardians gave their fans plenty to cheer about in their home opener, and Chase DeLauter was right at the center of it all.
Cleveland secured a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs, improving to 5-3 on the young season. It was a well rounded performance that featured timely hitting, strong pitching, and key defensive plays, but DeLauter’s breakout day stole the spotlight.
DeLauter delivered in a big way, going 3-4 with a home run and three RBI. His swing provided the spark the Guardians needed, continuing what has already been an impressive start to his season.
His home run energized the crowd and gave Cleveland a boost at a crucial moment.

While DeLauter led the offense, he was far from alone.
Jose Ramirez added two hits, and Gabriel Arias also contributed with a home run of his own, while Daniel Schneemann chipped in with a hit and scored a run.
On the mound, Joey Cantillo turned in an impressive outing. The left-hander allowed just one run over 5.1 innings while striking out six.

From there, Cleveland’s relievers did their job. The bullpen combined to shut things down over the final innings, with Cade Smith closing the door to secure the win.
Defense also played a key role in the victory.
Schneemann made one of the best plays of the game with a tremendous catch in center field, robbing the Cubs of a potential extra base hit.

Overall, this was the type of performance Cleveland needed.
After some early offensive inconsistency on the road, the Guardians showed signs of progress at home.
If DeLauter continues to swing the bat like this, it could change the outlook of the entire lineup.
For one night at least, everything came together. And with the home crowd behind them, it felt like a glimpse of what this team could become as the season unfolds.
