The Cleveland Guardians may have something special in rookie Chase DeLauter.
Through the first two games of the 2026 season, DeLauter has already made history and quickly become one of the biggest storylines in baseball. After launching two home runs in his Major League debut, he followed it up with another homer in Game 2, giving him three home runs in his first two career games.
That kind of start is almost unheard of.
DeLauter’s Opening Day performance immediately put him in rare company, as he became the first Cleveland player to hit two home runs in his regular season debut. He also joined a very short list of players in MLB history to accomplish the feat.
And yet, despite all of the attention, DeLauter is not getting caught up in the moment.
“I mean, you know, that’s something that’s hard to focus on right now… I’m just focused on tomorrow and making sure I’m available tomorrow night,” DeLauter said. “But yeah, it’s definitely something I’ll look back on like ‘Man, it’s a cool start.’”
#Guardians Chase DeLauter is off to an incredible start with 3 home runs in 2 games. He’ll give himself time to look back on how great it’s been, but is taking things one game at a time:

The Guardians have been searching for more power in recent seasons, and DeLauter’s early production could help fill that gap in a big way. Even in the team’s loss in the second game, he remained the biggest offensive threat, continuing to drive the ball with authority.
Of course, it is still early.
Pitchers will adjust, scouting reports will evolve, and DeLauter will face new challenges as the season goes on. But the tools are clearly there, and his early results suggest he is ready to compete at this level.
More importantly, his mindset suggests he is built to handle it.
For now, DeLauter is taking things one day at a time. But if this “cool start” is any indication, the Guardians may be watching the beginning of something much bigger unfold.
