It was likely that Carlos Santana would never play for the Guardians again after several stints with the team.
That’s why Santana instructed a realtor to put his Cleveland area house on the market a few weeks ago.
However, a buyer quickly emerged and last Thursday Santana completed the sale.
As luck would have it, the Guardians called on that Friday to offer Santana a contract.
Santana played for the Guardians from 2010 to 2017 and again in 2019 and 2020.
Santana reportedly had higher offers from other teams, but chose to return to the Guardians.
According to reports, one of those teams was the Mariners.
The Mariners’ reported offer was a one-year deal with a player option for the second season.
This was a good offer for a player entering his age thirty-nine season, but even after he sold his Cleveland area home, Santana chose to return.
Even Santana admitted the whole situation was shocking to him.
“I cannot believe it,” Santana said. “It’s crazy.”
Santana will be entering his 16th season in the major leagues in 2025.
In 2024 he had a .238 batting average and hit 23 home runs with 72 RBI’s.
He will be looking to show the Guardians that they were right for bringing him back in 2025.
