The Cleveland Guardians and Carlos Santana have parted ways again.
The veteran first baseman wasn’t getting much playing time lately, and with his numbers declining and other teams potentially looking to add a proven player, they reportedly reached a “joint decision” to move on from one another.
Now, MLB insider Hector Gomez reports that he might not be without a team for long.

Apparently, the Chicago Cubs are keeping tabs on his situation, and they would want to acquire his services for the remainder of the season.
The 39-year-old posted a .225/.316/.333 slash line with a wRC+ of just 86 this season.
His defense continued to be spectacular, but his performance at the plate left plenty to be desired.
Then, with Kyle Manzardo establishing himself on offense and the addition of young stud C.J. Kayfus, he wasn’t needed there for much longer.
Still, Santana is a proven switch-hitter with a long history of taking care of business and getting hot at the plate when it matters most, and now that he’s a free agent, he would certainly be a welcome addition to any contender.
Santana has always been solid against lefties, and his presence in the clubhouse also provides experience and a veteran leader to young teams looking to make a splash in the postseason.
This wasn’t obviously the way both parties envisioned this reunion would end, but even though this might be the end of the line for him in Cleveland – for good, this time – he’ll always be a fan favorite at Progressive Field.
