The Cleveland Guardians have some serious problems on offense.
They’ve caught fire late in games, and they’ve been arguably the best team in baseball after the sixth inning, but things aren’t that good in the first five frames.
Notably, plenty of that has had to do with the team’s struggles at the top of the lineup.
David Fry returned from injury and has been hitting second more often than not, but it still feels like the team is missing some juice there.
With that in mind, Bruce Drennan made a case for Jose Ramirez to take his spot there.
In the latest edition of ‘The Bruce Drennan Show,’ he argued that Ramirez could take on the same role Aaron Judge has had for the New York Yankees:
“Jose [Ramirez] has been in just about every position at the top half of the order. You can put him there, obviously. I’d like to see him more with ducks on the pond if you can get those hitters ahead of him on base. You know, Aaron Judge hits in the No. 2 position for the New York Yankees. That’s where [Andres] Gimenez came in. He was our No. 2 hitter, and the Guardians thought that he was going to be the No. 2 hitter for many years to come. I don’t know who that’s going to be, maybe David Fry?” Drennan said.
Is the SOLUTION to the 2 hitter on the #Guardians roster currently or elsewhere? Bruce talks who that solution could be. #GuardsBall

That makes perfect sense, especially considering the MVP-caliber number the veteran infielder has posted this season.
Ramirez can get hot in the blink of an eye, and while he’s not getting any younger, he’s shown no signs of slowing down whatsoever, even recording the longest hitting streak of his career earlier this season (21 games).
The Guardians have struggled with runners in scoring position, and they keep wasting scoring chances and leaving people on base day in and day out.
Perhaps bumping up Ramirez one spot will help turn things around.
Of course, there’s always a chance that the team will look to make some moves and acquire someone at the trade deadline, but the Guardians have never been known for being aggressive buyers.
