The Cleveland Guardians need to make something happen right now.
They need some sort of offensive spark to either make a postseason run or give the fans something to root for over the remainder of the season.
Notably, that might mean bending the rules to give Chase DeLauter a chance.
DeLauter is crushing it at Triple-A Columbus, and given the Guardians’ need for an offensive spark, analyst Bruce Drennan argued that the prospect might be worth a shot.
Drennan acknowledged that, although DeLauter isn’t as experienced as most minor leaguers when they get called up, he looks more than ready right now.
“Well, Bob [DiBiasio] made a good point about referencing Terry Francona and his 1,500 at-bats before they’re ready for the major leagues. There’s gotta be exceptions to the rule, maybe DeLauter is one of them. I’d like to think that he is,” Drennan said.

DeLauter was always expected to get the call at some point this season.
Unfortunately, his injury woes put those aspirations on hold.
Since he was cleared to return, he’s looked as healthy as he’s ever been, and he has excelled whenever he steps up to the plate.
DeLauter also claimed to be more than ready to embrace a new chapter of his career when asked about the possibility of getting called up, and he urged the fans to get as excited as he is.
Of course, the Guardians shouldn’t put all their hopes in a rookie, but DeLauter isn’t an ordinary rookie.
If they’re going to give up on postseason contention, they might as well make the most of this season by giving their young star some at-bats in the majors.
