The Cleveland Guardians have been heading in the wrong direction of late and are in danger of dropping a third consecutive series after either tying or winning each of their first four series of the 2026 season. A 6-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday dropped the Guardians to 11-10 on the year as the offense once again fell flat.
Some of the numbers are eye-popping if you look up and down the lineup, and not in a good way. Few are as disappointing as catcher Bo Naylor’s, as he has been so awful at the dish that he is even losing playing time to Austin Hedges.
Guardians Prospective shared Naylor’s stats to show how his bat has been ice-cold. It has been disappointing after he finished last season on a high note and had some exciting moments in the World Baseball Classic.
“In 14 games, Cleveland Guardians (C) Bo Naylor is hitting .143 with a .384 OPS,” Guardians Prospective wrote.

Naylor’s lack of production would be a bigger sore thumb if he were the only one struggling, but this lineup has struggled to generate any sort of continuity as a unit. He began the year consistently batting fifth, which makes the .384 OPS hurt even more.
Many were hoping this would be a breakout campaign for Naylor, but his numbers have been trending in the wrong direction over the years. Given the presence of prized catching prospect Cooper Ingle and his 1.137 OPS in Triple-A Columbus, there is now also somebody breathing down Naylor’s neck if he doesn’t start hitting sometime soon.
If Naylor had a bad 14 games in the middle of August, nobody would bat an eye. The fact that he began a pivotal season this way makes it worse, and unless Austin Hedges somehow manages to maintain his .700+ OPS, the Guardians could have a real problem on their hands behind the plate.
