When a star player is traded away from your team, the decision to make that move is usually met with some disappointment from the fanbase.
Such was the case after the 2020 season, when the Cleveland Guardians, then still the Indians, shipped Francisco Lindor off to the New York Mets in a blockbuster deal.
One player that Cleveland got back in that trade was infielder Andres Gimenez, who is having himself a pretty good season.
He’s hitting .309 with eight homers and 37 RBI, and so far, that deal has worked out just fine for the Guardians.
MLB writer Zack Meisel posted on Twitter that Gimenez is now tied with Lindor in WAR as the 20th best position player this season.
Per FanGraphs' WAR metric, Andrés Giménez has been the 20th-best position player in baseball this season.
Well, tied for 20th. With Francisco Lindor.

Francisco Lindor Who?
Gimenez has been everything the Guardians have asked for.
The day Lindor was traded away was not a good day in Guardians Nation, but Gimenez is making the fans in Cleveland forget about their former shortstop.
He even hit a walk-off home run yesterday to bring the Guardians within a game of the first-place Minnesota Twins.
Gimenez is having an All-Star caliber year at the plate and in the field.
He’s one of the many reasons that the Guardians are in contention right now and not rebuilding.
He’s another piece, along with Shane Bieber and Jose Ramirez, that this team can really build around if they make some moves at the trade deadline and signal that they plan on making a run.
He’s making everybody forget about Lindor and is putting up solid numbers at the dish.
We’ll see if he can ultimately make it to the All-Star Game.
That would make everything come full circle.
