Andres Gimenez‘s breakout season has been one of the most fascinating storylines of the Cleveland Guardians‘ 2022 season.
Previously seen as a light-hitting infielder with a very good glove, Gimenez’s bat has made enough strides for him to be considered a true two-way contributor.
Before Wednesday’s games, the infielder is slashing .305/.344/.497 with seven home runs and five stolen bases.
He has accumulated 22 runs and a shockingly high 33 RBI so far.
He doesn’t really have the physical frame of a slugger and middle-of-the-order producer, but he is performing like one.
A big part of it can be explained by one particular stat: performance with runners in scoring position, or RISP.
“Andrés Gimenéz is hitting .418 with 5-HR and 31-RBI with runners in scoring position,” Twitter baseball personality Fuzzy posted late Tuesday night.

The remaining two RBI not included when he has runners in scoring position came on solo homers.
A Timely, Opportunistic Producer
Hitting with RISP is not really something we can predict, but he has been extremely opportunistic and productive when the Guardians have needed him the most.
Fuzzy and the official Guardians’ account had a funny interaction on Twitter.
“Seems like he should start in the All-Star Game, Fuzzy,” the Guardians – one of the most entertaining Twitter accounts in the league, to be honest – posted in the replies.
Of course, Fuzzy showed his approval to that statement with a picture.

It has been refreshing to see Gimenez grow into a legitimate threat at the plate.
His .841 OPS is way better than the .633 mark he had in 2021, and shows how much he worked over the offseason to become the hitter he currently is.
The Guardians have a good one in Gimenez.
