The Cleveland Guardians have plenty of young talent on their roster right now.
Fortunately, there’s even more to come.
They have several reinforcements that could make their way to MLB late in the season,
With that in mind, MLB analysts dug into the tape, the payroll, and the team’s needs to figure out who’s the likeliest candidate to be called up at some point in the season:
“Juan Brito, 2B,” wrote Dykstra and Mayo. “Brito suffered a left hamstring strain that put him on the Triple-A Columbus IL on July 8. He might be an option to return in September, when he’ll be closing out his third year on the 40-man without an MLB debut. Brito has hit .255/.366/.442 with 24 homers in 173 career games at Triple-A, and after all that time, it might be worth seeing what Cleveland has in him in the Majors (if healthy) while sorting out its second-base options.”
Brito is making big strides in his recovery.
He’s back to running, hitting, and fielding after a major left hamstring strain cost him plenty of valuable time this season.
He’s been out for the past six weeks, but with an estimated recovery time of between eight and 12 weeks, he could still be back in the fold at some point in September.
This has been a tough year for the talented middle infielder, as he also sustained a thumb injury earlier in the season.
Brito entered the year as the team’s No. 10 prospect.
He was a late cut in spring camp after being in the mix to be the starting second baseman.
He’s been a part of the organization since 2022, when the team got him in the Nolan Jones trade.
Jones returned to Cleveland, so this was ultimately a master move by the front office.
Of course, the Guardians have more than enough options in the middle of the infield, with Brayan Rocchio and Gabriel Arias there, and there’s also Travis Bazzana.
Still, Brito is an intriguing prospect who should get his chance at some point this season or early next year.
