The Cleveland Guardians looked dead in the water a couple of weeks ago when the team was in the middle of a 10-game losing streak that sent them plummeting down the American League standings, leading many to wonder if selling at the trade deadline was an inevitability.
Now, the Guardians have rebounded thanks to an easy schedule and have somehow pushed their way back into the mix in the AL Central due to the Detroit Tigers falling off a cliff since the All-Star Break, leading one analyst to warn the team about a big potential mistake at the deadline.
Nick Pedone of 92.3 The Fan said Saturday that the Guardians’ recent hot streak has put pressure on the front office and made it so the organization cannot justify selling at the deadline in any capacity.
“Now, with five days until the trade deadline, the Guardians did their job. The players on the field put the front office in a tremendously difficult position. You can’t sell these guys at the deadline now because you’re sitting there just games away from being in a playoff spot again,” Pedone said.

Rumors of Steven Kwan or Emmanuel Clase being on the move were getting quite loud on the heels of the 10-game skid, but those reports are few and far between now that the team is just a few games out of a playoff spot.
The question now is whether or not the front office will go the other way and start buying, as it has been clear all season that this team is in dire need of a big bat or two.
Cleveland was shut out 11 times in the first half of the season, and with the postseason now within their grasp, the Guardians need to go shopping for some offense instead of selling Kwan or Clase.
