The MLB trade deadline is right around the corner. The Cleveland Guardians could be looking to make some moves and push for a playoff spot.
There isn’t a ton of MLB talent that a contending team such as the Guardians would be willing to move. That means that the Guardians would likely need to trade prospects for help at the deadline.
Cade Cracas recently talked about how the Guardians could move one of their top prospects.
“When you’re talking about untouchables with this organization, I’d be honest with you and say that the only untouchable at the moment is Ralphy Velazquez. Outside of that, I’d say that everyone else is on the board. The No. 2 prospect in the system right now, Angel Genao, is great. The thing is, that’s not going to make a difference at the major league level. He’s not gonna play over Travis Bazzana. He’s not gonna play over Brayan Rocchio. He’s not gonna play over Jose Ramirez,” Cracas said.

Cracas does have a good point. Genao is very close to being MLB-ready, and he doesn’t have a place to play in Cleveland right now. The Guardians have Bazzana, Rocchio, and Ramirez, who are likely all going to stick in the infield in Cleveland for the next few years.
The 22-year-old is on the verge of playing at the big league level, but is stuck in Triple-A. This season, Genao is slashing .294/.396/.457 with 11 home runs, 47 RBI, and eight steals between 92 games at Triple-A and Double-A. He’s capable of playing all three infield positions, but the Guardians are unlikely to call him up just to ride the bench.
Instead, the Guardians could potentially move Genao at the trade deadline to acquire help for the team right now. Yes, it would hurt giving up Genao and his potential, but the Guardians don’t need him at the moment. Barring any injuries, the Guardians are unlikely to need Genao anytime soon.
The switch-hitting top prospect could bring back legitimate talent to help this team get into the playoffs and make a real playoff push. If they don’t trade Genao, then they’ll likely need to move one of their infielders into the outfield to make room for Genao at some point.
The overall best move could be the Guardians trading Genao at the deadline for MLB-ready help.
