The Cleveland Guardians’ projected Opening Day lineup is beginning to take shape, and one analyst believes it will feature a heavy mix of youth and established veterans.
According to Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report, Cleveland’s lineup against right-hander Logan Gilbert could look very different from previous seasons, with several young players stepping into key roles.
At the top, Steven Kwan is projected to lead off, followed by Ángel Martínez hitting near the top of the order.

The middle of the lineup still revolves around José Ramírez, who remains the centerpiece of the offense. He is expected to be joined by Kyle Manzardo and newly added Rhys Hoskins, giving Cleveland a more balanced look with additional right-handed power.
Further down the lineup, Reuter projects Chase DeLauter to start in right field, with Gabriel Arias, Bo Naylor, and Brayan Rocchio rounding things out.
The Guardians are once again trusting their young core to carry a significant portion of the offensive load. That is especially true for Martinez.
After hitting .224 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI in 2025, he showed flashes but lacked consistency. Now, the expectation is that he takes a meaningful leap forward. His strong spring has only added to that belief, as he posted a .356 average with a 1.196 OPS over 18 games, signaling real improvement in his approach. If that carries over, it could be a major boost for Cleveland’s lineup.
The projected rotation also reflects a similar theme.
Reuter has Tanner Bibee, Gavin Williams, Slade Cecconi, Joey Cantillo, and Parker Messick making up the starting staff, a group that again leans heavily on young arms.
That approach has worked for Cleveland in the past. But it also comes with risk.
With so many young players expected to take on bigger roles, the Guardians’ success in 2026 may ultimately come down to development. If players like Martinez and DeLauter break out, this lineup could surprise people.
If not, it could look a lot like what some analysts are predicting.
A competitive team that still has work to do to truly contend.
