The Cleveland Guardians are still alive in the playoff race.
Against all odds, and in spite of a dreadful June, Stephen Vogt’s team can still make the postseason.
Nevertheless, the margin for error is pretty close to zero.
That’s why MLB analyst Al Pawlowski believes that every loss will be lethal to this team.
Talking on the Bruce Drennan Show, Pawlowski shared a candid assessment of the team’s current picture:
“They’re definitely still in the conversation. There’s no doubt about it, but you have to do what they recently did. You’ve gotta win 12 out of 14 games, or you’ve gotta win eight out of 10, at least. You’ve got to have stretches like that because other teams are winning, too. Every time you win, you’re gaining ground on somebody. Every time you lose, you’re losing ground to somebody. The Wild Card is awfully hard to get to,” Pawlowski said.

The Guardians are playing their best baseball of the season, and they will have one of the easiest schedules to close out the year, so it wouldn’t be wise to count them out.
Then again, this is still a professional baseball league, and there will be no easy games or opponents, not even those who may have already thrown in the towel on the season.
Everybody is trying to win, and those teams that may have already been eliminated from playoff contention by the time they face the Guardians will feature young players trying to make a name for themselves, so they will continue to play hard.
The Guardians are in a tough position, and you always want to have some sort of wiggle room.
They could be an injury away from losing all postseason hope.
Also, losing Emmanuel Clase, potentially for the season, gave this team even less of a margin for error.
Hopefully, they will keep this momentum going and continue to perform well when it matters most, proving the doubters wrong.
