The Cleveland Guardians desperately needed to head back home.
They started the season with nine games on the road, and they went 3-6 to start the campaign.
Fortunately for them, they bounced back in their return to Ohio, winning five of their six games at Progressive Field against AL Central opposition.
With that in mind, Kristopher Jacoby of Down Euclid pointed out that this homestand wasn’t just good for their record but also for their morale, as they sent a big message about how they could look like when they’re at their best:
“More than just padding their win column, this homestand offered a glimpse of what this Guardians team could be at its best—relentless pitching, timely hitting, and emerging stars shining on both sides of the ball,” Jacoby wrote. “The Guardians didn’t just bounce back—they bounced forward. With five wins in six games, they’ve flipped the early-season narrative and sent a clear message to the rest of the AL Central: Cleveland is coming, and they’re bringing the heat.”
Even if the team lost the final game of the homestand, it was still a much-needed turnaround after such a worrisome start to the campaign.
The doubters have gone radio silent over the past week or so, and this team should look more similar to what we saw in the six games vs. the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals than the team they were in the first nine contests of the campaign.
Now, they will look to keep the momentum going when they face the Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates for the next six games on the road.
Hopefully, their struggles away from home won’t be a trend to consider all year long.
This team is coming off a trip to the ALCS, and while some believe it was a bit of a fluke, they clearly have more than enough to make some serious noise, especially if (when) Emmanuel Clase turns back the clock and figures things out after a slow start to the campaign.
