The Cleveland Guardians need as much help as they can get right now.
They’ve lost three games in a row, and, to make things worse, they’ve scored just five runs in those three games combined, including a shutout.
The Guardians have gotten little to no production from their center and right fielders.
Notably, that’s why it’s so encouraging to hear that veteran OF Lane Thomas might be inching closer to making his return to the field.
According to a report by Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com, Thomas is making big strides in his recovery from a foot injury:
“Outfielder Lane Thomas (plantar fasciitis) recently received injections in his right foot. He went through limited team drills on the field before Saturday’s game. If all goes well, Thomas could go on a rehab assignment in the near future,” Hoynes wrote.
Thomas has finally resumed running after being placed on the Injured List (IL) with plantar fasciitis.
Manager Stephen Vogt claimed that he was still listed as day-to-day, but it seems like he’s not going to be out for a long time.
He’s struggled with injuries for most of the season, only making 17 appearances so far.
He’s gone 7-for-59 (.119) with three walks, one stolen base, and one double, so while those numbers might not be encouraging, he may just need some consistent playing time to get back to his usual ways.
Thomas missed more than four weeks with a wrist injury, and his return to the lineup was short-lived because of this new issue.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before he’s back out there and, more importantly, he will be able to stay on the field.
The team desperately needs some production from an outfielder not named Steven Kwan, and Thomas is the primary candidate to do so.
