When asked to name one prospect from the Cleveland Guardians, most people will say Travis Bazzana.
Others will reply with outfielder Chase DeLauter, and some of the most experienced prospect guys with knowledge of the system will point out the fact Jaison Chourio and Angel Genao both boast a higher ceiling than almost everyone else.
Yet somehow people keep sleeping on C.J. Kayfus and his amazing season in the high minors.
Cleveland sports analyst Bruce Drennan has certainly been paying attention to him and his development, though.
Speaking on his show, Drennan said that his sources see a future MLB contributor in Kayfus.
“I’ve talked to people that have seen him in games and say he’s the real deal,” he posted on X.

Kayfus is not a random prospect.
He was taken in the third round of the 2023 MLB Draft, indicating he was highly regarded by teams.
In each and every minor league stop since making his pro debut, Kayfus has returned a wRC+ of 100 or better.
It means he has been an above-average hitter in Single-A, High-A, Double-A, and now Triple-A.
He opened the 2025 campaign in Double-A Akron, hitting a robust .364/.475/.591 with a 208 wRC+ in 18 games.
Naturally, he earned a promotion to Scranton, where he is currently slashing a cool .327/.397/.570 in 28 contests, good for a rock-solid 156 wRC+.
MLB teams usually like it when players find some adversity in the minors, so they can adjust back and become productive again.
That hasn’t been the case with Kayfus, though.
All he does and has done to this point is hit, and he could potentially find himself helping the Guardians in a matter of weeks, not months.
