The Cleveland Guardians have fared decently this season.
Then again, they have some big areas of need they should look to address as soon as possible.
Fortunately, the trade deadline is still looming large, so they should have more than enough opportunities to do so.
With that in mind, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report pointed out that they could set their sights on the ever-struggling Chicago White Sox to solve their problems in the outfield.
In his latest column, he chose Luis Robert Jr. as a potential trade target for Stephen Vogt’s team:
“Cleveland’s CF/RF situation has been so disastrous—dead last in the majors in fWAR for both ‘as CF’ and ‘as RF’ splits as of Wednesday morning—that even the Guardians almost certainly would be willing to spend some money and prospects to acquire Robert,” Miller wrote.
Robert hasn’t necessarily thrived this season, slashing just .182/.269/.294 and failing to live up to his seemingly high potential.
He has 20 RBI, 21 stolen bases, and five home runs.
Then again, given his team’s situation, it’s hard to blame him for his struggles.
Robert has been tangled up in trade rumors for years now.
He’s signed through 2027, but he has two club options and potential exits before that.
He looked poised for stardom a couple of years ago, as he hit 38 home runs with 20 stolen bases and an .857 OPS, but his regression last season may have driven his trade value way down.
That could put him right in the price range that the Guardians might be willing to meet.
He’s healthy, and he’s leading the Majors in stolen bases, which somewhat makes up for his subpar hitting numbers.
The Guardians’ OF situation has been a talking point all season long, and he’s at least worth considering, as he’s still young.
