The Cleveland Guardians won’t wow anybody with their power and offense.
Of course, like every team, they can get hot every now and then, but banking on them to rake their way to the postseason is naive and unrealistic; it’s just wishful thinking.
That’s why this team’s success – or lack thereof – will most likely hang on what they can do on the mound.
Notably, that’s why the fans are so worried about their starting pitchers struggling and failing to go deep in games.
With that in mind, Bruce Drennan wanted to ease those concerns by sharing a rather interesting stat.
In the latest edition of his show, Drennan pointed out that the starters have finally turned the corner and showed their best face:
“It seems like just yesterday that we were so concerned about the Guardians’ starting pitchers not going deep enough into games to taking the pressure off the bullpen. Well, get this. In the Guardians’ last 14 games, the starters in 75 1/3 innings pitched have an ERA of a tremendous 2.15,” Drennan said.
Bruce is PLEASED with the #Guardians starting pitching as of recent. #GuardsBall

That’s great news for a team that has thrived off its bullpen for years now.
And while they should still look to add more firepower, whether it’s from call-ups or trades, finding consistent pitching will be crucial to this team’s postseason aspirations.
Unfortunately, Ben Lively, who posted the best ERA among starters on the team, could be looking at some time on the shelf.
He was recently placed on the 15-day Injured List (IL), and he will reportedly seek outside opinions to determine the extent and potential recovery plan for his injury.
At least they got some solid production from Slade Cecconi in his first game with the organization, and reports state that Shane Bieber is taking big steps in his recovery.
