When the 2025 season started, there were many question marks surrounding Cleveland Guardians’ left-hander Logan Allen.
From stuff-related concerns to rumors about him not taking criticism well last year, the overall package didn’t exactly scream ‘success’ regarding his 2025 prospects.
The southpaw, however, went to work and had a very solid offseason and spring.
Nobody gave him anything: he earned a spot on the Guardians’ staff fair and square and is proving the doubters wrong with his performance on the mound.
On Tuesday, he gave the Guardians another excellent start, which eventually resulted in their second straight shutout of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Allen pitched six scoreless frames to lower his ERA to a cool 3.70.
He allowed three hits and walked one, with six strikeouts to his name.
He hasn’t looked this good since his debut 2023 campaign, when he posted a 3.81 ERA in 125.1 innings of work.
After struggling to the tune of a 5.73 ERA last year, Allen’s MLB career and his place in the franchise’s long-term plans were in question.
But he has done a good job suppressing runs and keeping the ball in the yard, as his 0.65 homers per nine innings indicate.
It was 1.15 in his debut season and 2.03 last year.
Underlying metrics, such as his low strikeout output (31 in 41.1 frames) and his high walk rate (4.35 per nine innings) suggest that his ceiling is not that high, but as long as he keeps avoiding the fat part of the zone, he will be a serviceable backend starter for Cleveland.
Right now, the team needs reliability from its starters and Allen is delivering excellent results.
