Cleveland Guardians top prospect and 2024 No. 1 draft pick Travis Bazzana opened the 2025 campaign in Double-A after a successful stint in High-A last year.
He was actually thriving in his first few games at the new level.
Baseball is a game of adjustments, though.
The league has apparently found a hole in Bazzana’s swing and he has been scuffling a bit in recent games.
“Cleveland #Guardians (2B) prospect Travis Bazzana has had a bit of a tough go after his first two games of the 2025 season. First two: 6-8 5R 1(2B) 1HR 3RBI 2BB 1SO 2SB. AVG .750 .800 OBP. Last 13 games: 10-53 8R 3(3B) 8RBI 6BB 16SO 1SB, .189 AVG .283 OBP,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

Overall, he was so good in his first couple of games that he is still boasting a rock-solid 132 wRC+, a .262 batting average, and a .357 OBP.
It’s becoming evident that Bazzana has things to learn and some maturing to do as a hitter, though.
That’s not as bad as it seems: in fact, the Guardians probably wanted it to happen.
What MLB teams want is for their prospects to show they can make adjustments when needed.
When prospects open the season on a hot streak and their performance starts to worsen as the year goes on, it probably means pitchers have figured them out.
It’s now their turn to identify where the pitchers are attacking them, improve that particular area, and start producing again.
This is what Bazzana needs to do right now.
Pitchers appear to have found a way to neutralize him.
It’s now his turn to adjust back and improve.
It’s part of the natural development process, and it means Bazzana is not quite ready for the majors yet.
