After enjoying a solid, but not scintillating professional debut in 2024 with the High-A Lake County Captains, Cleveland Guardians top prospect Travis Bazzana kept working in the offseason and spring training to improve his game.
His wRC+ of 126 in 27 games last year was solid, but everyone knew he had much more in him.
Well, the Guardians were convinced that was the case and assigned him to Double-A, hoping he would thrive.
In nine games with the Akron RubberDucks, he has shown the world why he was the No. 1 pick of the 2024 MLB Draft.
“Cleveland #Guardians 22yr old (2B) prospect Travis Bazzana extended his on-base streak to 9 straight games tonight with an infield base hit in the 9th inning at Erie. Bazzana has reached base in every game to start his 2025 season. 12-37 1(2B) 3(3B) 1HR 7RBI 6BB 2SB. AVG .324, OBP .432, SLG .595, OPS 1.027,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

In case you were wondering, Bazzana’s wRC+ at the moment is an incredible 190.
That nine-game streak getting on base means he has done it in every one of the games he has played this year.
Double-A pitchers just have no answer for this kid, who is doing it all on the field: hitting for average, showing patience (13.6 percent walk rate), and showcasing his above-average power with a home run and five extra-base hits.
He has even managed to cut his strikeout rate from 25.4 percent last year in High-A to 22.7 percent this season in Double-A, a more difficult level.
He has added two stolen bases for good measure.
If Bazzana keeps this up, he will be in Triple-A in a matter of weeks, not months.
Once that happens, all bets are off: who knows, he might even make his MLB debut this year.
