The Cleveland Guardians are playing a weekend three-game set against the Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field.
Every game counts, and we have seen sufficient evidence through the years to know that’s the case.
However, series against divisional rivals have an extra condiment that makes them incredibly exciting.
Guardians analyst and former pitcher Jensen Lewis felt the need to remind the audience that this series against the Royals is as important as a September one.
Again, every game counts, and considering there is no more Game 163 to break ties, and those are now settled by using head-to-head records, the weekend set is crucial.
“This Royals series matters! #GuardsBall. “The series in April counts the same as the series in the second half of the season.” -@JLEWFifty,” the BIGPLAY Cleveland Show posted on X, with Lewis’ thoughts on the series against Kansas City.

Cleveland has won three games in a row against a division rival, the Chicago White Sox, and is trying to extend their AL Central dominance against the tough Royals.
The Guards already won the first series between the two teams right before going on that rough road trip in San Diego and Los Angeles.
Every game against Kansas City, the Minnesota Twins, the White Sox, and the Detroit Tigers is a must-win for Cleveland not only because head-to-head record is the first playoff tiebreaker but also because intradivisional record is the second.
If the Guardians want to avoid having to depend on September games against these teams, they have to start securing some wins now.
