A couple of days ago, before Saturday, the Cleveland Guardians were expected to enter the season with a platoon at right field.
Jhonkensy Noel is going to get the majority of playing time against left-handers.
Will Brennan was the main option vs. righties.
However, the Nolan Jones trade changes the equation.
He is coming to fulfill Brennan’s role: to play right field against right-handed pitchers.
Now that the Guards brought back Jones, what will they do with Brennan?
According to team insider Zack Meisel, his roster spot, which seemed set in stone two days ago, is now in question.
“Also: Will Brennan had been told he made the Opening Day roster. Then, the Guardians acquired Nolan Jones in a deal that came together quickly. Now, Brennan’s Opening Day roster spot is in question. Guardians still sorting out how the pieces all fit,” Meisel posted on X.

Carrying both Jones and Brennan might leave the team short-handed in other areas such as the infield or the bullpen.
They just don’t have a spot for Brennan if they want to carry both Gabriel Arias and Daniel Schneemann, for example.
Likely, they are actively seeking a trade involving Brennan.
The 27-year-old outfielder is a career 91 wRC+ hitter and was virtually league-average last year with a 98 wRC+.
The Guardians are probably not going to give him away, but it’s safe to say he can potentially be had at a discount these days.
Brennan could represent nice depth if he chooses to stay, but he probably wouldn’t like to be in the minors or on the bench at this point.
There are still a few days until Opening Day, so this situation will sort itself out one way or another.
