If you follow the Cleveland Guardians since the nineties, you will surely remember former All-Star second baseman Carlos Baerga.
He played in the organization from the day of his debut in 1990 until 1996 and returned in 1999 for another stint.
With Cleveland, Baerga won two Silver Slugger Awards and made three All-Star teams.
He is a member of the Guardians Hall of Fame.
He is now an analyst and started a new show recently, in which he covers and discusses all things related to the Guardians.
He took advantage of the current second base situation in the organization and voiced his opinion about it.
After all, few people know second base like him.
He believes that despite losing Andres Giménez and his Gold-Glove defense, the Guards will be OK.
“Who do you want to see starting at second base for the Guardians this year? #ForTheLand: “I believe that we have some young players that are going to have the opportunity of their life.” -@baergacarlos” Baerga Show posted on X with a short clip of the former player’s analysis.

Indeed, Juan Brito, Angel Martinez, and guys like Tyler Freeman and Daniel Schneemann (all named by Baerga in the clip) have the opportunity of their lives in front of them.
The problem is that only one of them will be named the starting second baseman.
Another one among those names could potentially make the team in a utility role, but only one will earn the right to be called Cleveland’s second baseman.
Martinez (.553 spring OPS) seems to have played himself out of the equation, but Brito (.772), Arias (.737), Freeman (.964), and Schneemann (.901) remain firmly in the mix
It will be a tough decision for manager Stephen Vogt, one that should come in the next few days.
