The Cleveland Guardians couldn’t keep up their strong hitting down the stretch last season.
They got off to a strong start, but their regression later in the season was worrisome.
Now, with Josh Naylor being traded and David Fry out for the first couple of months of the season, there are some legitimate reasons to be concerned about this team.
With that in mind, Adam The Bull asked MLB analyst Zack Meisel whether he legitimately thought any other Guardians player besides Jose Ramirez could even hit 20 home runs next season.
Meisel talked about Steve Kwan as a second-tier MVP candidate who showed some power last season.
However, he thinks that for this team and everybody to be at their best, their offense will need to perform better.
Notably, they also added Carlos Santana to the mix, and even though he’s not getting any younger, he did hit 23 home runs last season.
You need to have some power to win in this league, but the situation is not entirely negative for this team.
Stephen Vogt’s squad showed elite plate discipline for the most part last season.
They don’t strike out very often, and last season, they had the fifth-lowest K% in Major League Baseball (20.2%).
A lot needs to go right for this team to get back to where they got to last season.
Then again, they shocked the world with that ALCS berth in Vogt’s first year in charge, so there’s no reason to believe they can’t replicate that success this year.
