Most baseball players have been working out for weeks at this point.
Whether it’s on their strength, agility, hitting, or fielding skills, those who want to be successful in 2025 have been working out for a while.
This is the case with Cleveland Guardians utilityman Tyler Freeman.
Freeman isn’t afraid of putting in the hard work to reach his goals.
He did it last year and it helped him earn the center field job to open the season.
He couldn’t sustain his gains, though, and ended up posting an 84 wRC+ (16 percent below the league average of 100) in 383 plate appearances.
At some point, the Guardians moved on from him.
Baseball and life, however, are full of second chances.
He is getting one in 2025 and will be part of an open competition for regular or semi-regular playing time.
As you can expect from a player with an impeccable work ethic, he is taking his opportunity very seriously.
“Cleveland #Guardians (INF/OF) Tyler Freeman putting in work out at @roc_performance back home in Texas. Freeman, heading into spring training, will have the opportunity to win the job opening at second base or a super-utility spot on the opening day roster,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

Freeman is often overlooked in the free-for-all second base competition.
We often mention Juan Brito, Angel Martinez, Daniel Schneemann, and Gabriel Arias as the favorites, but Freeman will also be vying for the starting gig there.
If not, there is also a chance he earns a super-utility spot.
He has the defensive versatility for it.
It will all depend on his bat.
Freeman is still just 25 so marked offensive improvement, while unlikely, is plausible.
