The Cleveland Guardians are continually looking for pitching help and depth.
They know that quality pitching depth is what’s going to make or break their 2025 hopes and dreams.
We saw how important that is in their 2024 postseason run.
They made a cheap signing to add to their collection of arms on Thursday, bringing in Luis Frías on a minor league deal.
He also received an invitation to compete for a roster spot when camp opens.
“Cleveland #Guardians have signed 26yr old RHP Luis Frias to a minor league contract for the 2025 season with an invite to MLB spring training. Frias spent time with Arizona and Toronto last season,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

Frías made his MLB debut in 2021 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He accumulates 61 innings of MLB experience between the snakes and the Toronto Blue Jays.
The results so far haven’t been the best, as he boasts a 7.38 ERA.
He can miss bats, but also has notorious control issues.
He gave away 6.79 free passes per each nine frames over his MLB career, and that’s unsustainably high.
The Guardians, known for working wonders with young pitchers and turning them into real contributors, will have their hands full with Frías.
They do have some exciting raw tools to work with, though, as the righty can dial it up to 97-98 mph.
He will require some patience but has the fastball to turn into a useable reliever with work and reps.
In the worst-case scenario, the signing poses no risk at all and the Guards can move on at any time.
