The Cleveland Guardians are expected to make another major move or two in the off-season.
They added Shane Bieber and Luis L. Ortiz to the rotation, but since the former isn’t expected until about mid-season, they still need an arm or two.
Their lineup could also use a power-hitting right fielder, and the expectation is that Josh Naylor is traded at some point.
In the meantime, there is also time for minor moves, those that shore up organizational depth at specific positions.
The Guards made one of those to open the week, as they brought back catcher Dom Nunez on a minor league deal.
“The Guardians today re-signed C Dom Nuñez to a 2025 Minor League contract. Once again contains an invite to ML Spring Training Camp. Spent the ’24 campaign at AAA Columbus,” Guards Insider posted on X.

Nunez has 111 games worth of MLB experience, with a 58 wRC+.
His best year in the majors was 2021, when he hit 10 home runs for the Colorado Rockies.
He has been with the Guardians since 2024.
In 68 games with Triple-A Columbus, he posted an 81 wRC+.
Nunez, who will turn 30 in January, offers solid play behind the plate as a defender, but not much of a bat.
Still, it’s clear the Guardians value his experience and defensive work because they invited him to MLB spring training camp next February.
He can be of value in helping catch for the dozens of arms who will be throwing in camp, as as a solid mentor for young players in the minor leagues.
