Matthew Boyd believes in gratitude.
He genuinely sounds grateful for his time in Cleveland, even if it was relatively short.
He signed for the team in late June, after several organizations watched his recovery from Tommy John surgery performed in 2023 very closely.
His rehab wasn’t done when he put pen to paper on his one-year deal with the Guardians, but the organization believed in him and his recovery.
They helped him get ready and gave him a platform to succeed.
After a rock-solid stint in Cleveland, he opted to sign a lucrative two-year deal with the Chicago Cubs.
He didn’t forget about his time in Cleveland, the people he met and the relationships he built there, and sent a heartfelt message to the team, his teammates and fans.
“Former #Guardians LHP Matthew Boyd posted this message on his Instagram account about his time with Cleveland,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

He thanked the Guardians and the city of Cleveland for “some of the most fun four months” he has ever had playing baseball.
He had kind words for the front office and the coaching staff for believing in him, and said he will be forever grateful for his time in “The Land”.
All things considered, the flier that the Guardians took on Boyd was a resounding success.
He posted a 2.72 ERA in the regular season and a 0.77 mark in the postseason.
He was the Guardians’ most reliable starter come October, and that’s what got him the big bucks.
Fans will remember him fondly and wanted him to return, but Cleveland wasn’t going to match the Cubs’ offer.
