The Cleveland Guardians have been doing things the right way for a long time at the office level.
They continually employ smart, prepared people for their baseball operations and player development department.
This has positive results on the field, but as it has happened this year, other teams often pry away some of their talent and leave the Guards looking for alternatives.
The Guards had lost Rob Cerfolio, their director of player development, to the St. Louis Cardinals in late October.
They game him the direction of player development and an assistant GM position.
That in itself was a considerable loss for Cleveland.
Others came after him, too.
On Thursday, the same Cards also snatched Larry Day and named him their farm director.
“Cleveland #Guardians lose Larry Day to the #Cardinals as they have named him the organizations new farm director. Day a former manager, coach and field director over the past decade with Cleveland was hired by former Guardians farm director Rob Cerfelio. Cerfelio was recently hired as the Cardinals new assistant general manager,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

Day spent the last two seasons as the assistant field coordinator in Cleveland.
Before that, he was the player programs coordinador in 2020-2022, the manager in the Arizona Complex League (2018 and 2019) and for the Lake County Captains (2017), and prior to that, he was a minor league hitting coach in 2015 and 2016.
Day will have a big role in St. Louis and will have a direct hand in player development decisions.
The Guardians lose yet another talented baseball mind.
