The Cleveland Guardians rotation was the team’s Achilles heel during their impressive 2024 campaign.
Because if the inconsistent rotation, the New York Yankees finally got to Cleveland’s bullpen due to exposure and overuse.
The idea, for 2025, is to enter the year with a deeper, better unit to increase the chances of winning the World Series.
Guardians-related account Guardians of the Land came up with a realistic plan to improve starting pitching on the team.
“Re-signing Boyd and adding Montas would give us a pretty solid rotation. Bibee, Boyd, Montas, Williams, Lively… with Cantillo, McKenzie, Allen, and Nikhazy providing additional organizational depth. Could see Messick factoring in at some point, too,” he posted on X.

It would be ideal for the Guardians to add a bonafide ace to their staff, such as Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell, Max Fried, Garrett Crochet or maybe even Jesus Luzardo.
The first three are free agents and considered too expensive for Cleveland’s modus operandi, while the last two would require giving up prized prospects and the Guardians are reluctant to do that as we saw in the deadline.
Montas, on the other hand, could be a nice bargain.
He posted a 4.84 ERA in 150.2 innings of work this year, but the Guardians might have the key to get more and he has returned better numbers over his career.
Boyd needs no introduction, as he was a beast for Cleveland both in the regular season and the playoffs.
The only problem with this plan would be that both hurlers are notoriously injury-prone.
If the Guards can’t secure a high-profile pitcher, bringing back Boyd and signing Montas could potentially work.
